Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker first started the “Invincible” comic book series in 2003, with Ryan Ottley becoming the main artist after a few issues. Kirkman also developed “Invincible” into the Amazon Prime Video show adaptation, which was released for the first time in March of 2021 nearly 20 years after the first issue. Season four of “Invincible” premiered after the great success of previous seasons on March 18, 2026.
As soon as episode one of season four of “Invincible” begins, the audience can already see a complete shift in tone from the seasons before, due to the soundtrack choice and opening scenes. Mark Grayson (Invincible’s secret identity) and the rest of the heroes are shown saving lives and, in some cases, losing their own.
The civilians of this universe should be grateful and relieved to have such heroes protecting them. However, Mark/Invincible is met with resentment from Earth’s population due to the events from season three. The first five episodes of season four keep this tone as he deals with his own morality, continuous danger, and the strained relationship with his father.
His morality shifts in this season as he is now aware of what is at stake as villains continue to threaten him, his family, and the rest of Earth. This is a feeling many can relate to: the desire to stop anything that is against us and the ones we love.
With this in mind, he understands that he can not hold back against those who wish to do harm to the people of Earth. We see this at the end of the first episode when he makes a fatal choice about how he treats a reappearing villain. This decision and his violent tendencies towards those who try to harm his family are battles he deals with throughout this season.
When it comes to Invincible’s father, Omni-Man (Nolan Grayson), he finally sees the damage and wrong he caused to everyone around him. Nolan has to come to terms with how terrible his people, the Viltrutmites, are and the suffering they bring to other planets around them. Although he is trying to make amends for his and his people’s actions, it is very satisfying to see his realization and guilt as more and more characters come forward to confront him.
This is especially true when he is confronted by his own family: Debbie (his ex-wife) and his other son, Oliver.

Overall, this season of “Invincible” is unlike anything else we have seen from this show, which is very surprising, considering the darkest moments in previous seasons. The gruesome subject matter, song choice, and how the scenes are animated create a very unsettling experience for the viewer. Episodes two and five are especially sickening in the best way possible; they’ll have you holding your breath. Warning: you may never look at spaghetti the same after watching episode five.
“Invincible” season four concludes on April 22, 2026. However, there is speculation that the show could have 7-10 seasons in total.
