Have you hit that mid-semester slump where you feel overwhelmed with the amount of homework, but are not motivated to complete it? Here are four study tips that may be helpful in prioritizing your workload as the semester continues.
- Create a study schedule in advance!
If you look ahead at your assignments, quizzes, and tests you can create a schedule that prioritizes plenty of time to complete each assignment. When creating your study schedule, it should allow plenty of days to complete assignments or study for exams. This will allow you to avoid pulling all-nighters to complete work. You can even create a schedule now for the rest of the semester!
- Take breaks and reward yourself.
It is more beneficial when studying to take breaks often rather than studying for hours at a time. The more time you work without a break the less productive the studying becomes. Short breaks give your brain a break and will allow it to work better over long periods of time. When taking a break you can go for a short walk, grab a snack, or chat with a friend briefly. In addition to breaks you should reward yourself for the time you spend studying. If you complete an assignment or section of studying eat a snack or give yourself five minutes to scroll on social media. Prioritizing breaks and rewards in your study sessions will benefit the productivity of your studying!
- Create a relaxed study environment.
While studying in your bed is not the best idea, you do want to feel relaxed while studying. Avoid distractions like TV, loud music, and social media being around you. Dress comfortably and find a good position on the couch, at a desk, or in the library that will allow you to focus on your work. Have snacks and water on hand to fuel yourself as you are studying.
- Form study groups and ask for help.
Studying in groups can be beneficial in helping understand the content from multiple perspectives and can clarify any misunderstandings you may have. Find people in your classes that you can study with once or twice a week. Don’t be afraid to ask others for help!
