Falcons w/Pride March 2020 Meeting

On Tuesday March 3rd, Falcons w/ Pride held their March meeting. Once  the meeting started, the director, assistant director, and the panel members were introduced. During the meeting, upcoming events were discussed including fundraising ideas for the future and the “Victory Internship”.

The two events discussed were the movie night and the “LGBTQ+ Health Table”. Falcons w/ Pride had planned to set up a “LGBTQ+ Health Table” to raise awareness on LGBT health in the Falcon Center on Tuesday, March 24th from 12:30-2:00. The movie night was scheduled for Friday, March 27th. They decided to watch “Love, Simon” and one other film. The members took a vote to pick one of the following six movies: The Greatest Showman, Mean Girls, Burlesque, Hairspray, Bring It On, or Deadpool. The assistant director is going to add up the votes and let everyone know.

Future fundraising events were briefly discussed because Falcons w/ Pride currently doesn’t have a budget due to it being a fairly new organization. However, since the account should be up and running next semester, they wanted to have some ideas in place such as a raffle or a bake sale.

Lastly, the “Victory Internship” is an 8-week paid internship based in Washington D.C. that focuses on LGBTQ youth that are interested in politics. The students in Falcons w/ Pride were given an invitation to apply for this program and the deadline for the application was March 9th.

When asked what he knew about the program the Director, Lars Lehmann said “You get trained for a period of time and then you go back, and you do internships with Senators  and Delegates.” He also said that he would send out the information again if needed.
