T-Rotaract Club hosted its first meeting today at Fairmont’s Disability Action Center. The members of Fairmont and South Fairmont’s Rotary Clubs were in attendance to support the club’s new inductees.
“They are empowered, they know that this is a big deal, that they are a part of a global organization.” says Executive Director of the Disability Act Center Julie Sole. Sole was contacted by fellow Rotarians and DAC Board Members Sean and Julie Sawyer about the creation of A Rotaract Club at the DAC. Sole was ecstatic, exclaiming, “It was the most amazing idea, and I could not believe that I hadn’t thought of it already!” The DAC had already maintained the goal of community outreach with the help of clients and their families. The action of bringing together two organizations would give members of both parties the ability to strengthen their outreach. After months of informing the clients of the DAC about the perks of chartering a Rotaract Club jointly with local Rotary Club, clients of the DAC, the DAC Board members, and local Rotary Club members came together to make this idea a reality.
The local Rotary Clubs of Fairmont and South Fairmont diligently worked alongside the DAC to mentor the new Rotaract Club members. The Rotaract Club offers empowerment and cooperation within the community of Fairmont and with their members. “Both of those things are certainly carried out in the spirit of others, and as of today, both are going to be under the same roof.” DAC board members and Rotarian Sean Sawyer expressed this in his speech. The founders of the Rotaract Club aspire to expand the club’s objectives and its size in the future.
Multiple clients of the DAC were inducted into the Rotaract Club. In this initial meeting President Alesa Staud was inducted into her position. She shared her enthusiasm to carry out her responsibilities and plans she had for upcoming service projects to benefit the Fairmont Area. “I think we might like to…go out into the community picking up trash.” Staud explained.
The DAC and Rotary and Rotaract clubs desire to work in tandem to contribute positively to the community. Sole states, “Together, we’re just going to broaden our impact, not just in Fairmont, and in Marion County, but really at the district and state level.” This promising new club is prepared to positively transform the community at large through service, education and human connection.
