The Fairmont State University baseball team is feeling confident heading into the 2025 season, ranked fourth in the North Division of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) preseason poll. After a solid performance in the MEC last year, the Falcons are looking to build on that success. They finished the 2024 season with a 20-29 record, including 16-12 in conference play, and made a strong run in the MEC Tournament, just missing out on the championship series.
Fairmont State was ranked fourth in the MEC North Division in the preseason poll, just behind Frostburg State and Point Park. Charleston, the three-time defending champs, was picked as the favorite in the South. While Charleston will be tough to beat, the Falcons have plenty of reasons to be hopeful for the upcoming season.
Quintin Reep and Noah Canterbury are two senior players who will be important to Fairmont State’s success this season. Reep, an outfielder, has gotten better each year. He has a career .244 batting average, with a .400 slugging percentage and 30 RBIs. Last season, he played 44 games, hitting .269 with 10 doubles, 2 triples, and 3 home runs. Reep has shown he can contribute both with his bat and as a leader on the team. Noah Canterbury is valuable both as a hitter and a pitcher. He has a career .312 batting average with 7 home runs and 87 RBIs. Last season, he hit .333, with 11 doubles, 3 home runs, and 39 RBIs. While he can pitch, his main role is as a strong hitter. In interviews with the senior players, they shared their thoughts on how the team has changed and what makes this year’s team different.
Reep, a senior outfielder, reflected on the team’s growth over the past few years. “In a sense of watching the team evolve, I’d say the way everyone is bought into what we’re doing,” Reep said. “Our whole team is committed to winning and doing what’s best for the team, not necessarily what’s best for themselves.” Reep went on to highlight the team’s leadership, with a strong group of upperclassmen ready to guide the younger players. “I feel the team’s talent, commitment, and age will contribute greatly to our success,” he added.
Canterbury, another senior leader, agreed with Reep but pointed out how important experience is. “We started off losing key players that graduated my freshman year, so the next year we were really young,” Canterbury explained. “Now we seem to have the experience come back around again.” He noted that the team is now well-rounded and ready to take the next step. “I think we’ve always had a piece or two of the puzzle missing, but now I feel like we are more well-rounded than ever,” he said.
The leadership and experience of the senior players, plus the team’s drive, will be key to Fairmont State’s success in 2025. The Falcons have plenty of talent, but they need to stay focused and work together to reach their potential. With experienced players like Reep and Canterbury, the team is ready to make a strong run in the MEC Tournament and compete with the top teams.
