As new students embark on their journey at Fairmont State University, the Student Empowerment Liaisons (SELs) Title III program is here to provide essential support and guidance. Located at convenient tables in the Falcon Center and the library, our dedicated team is ready to assist students as they navigate their academic and social transitions. We are the bridge between staff and students providing a welcoming opportunity to get connected.
Meeting the 1st Team of SELs
I am excited to introduce the inaugural team representing the Title III grant. Rachel, Ainsley, Morgan, Kailey, Caitlyn, Claire, Katie, Gabby, Franki and myself, Sarah. Each of us brings unique perspectives and experiences to the table, united by our commitment to empowering our peers.
Meet Our Leadership
Behind the SELs Title III program, we have a dedicated leadership team that guides our efforts. Valerie Morphew, Ed.D., Title III Project Director, oversees the program, ensuring we stay aligned with our mission. Additionally, our top administrators, Dedra Cobb, the Student Success Coordinator, and Nicole Samson, the Career Connections Coordinator, offer invaluable support and guidance that empower us to serve the student community effectively.
Our Goal!
We are here to create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable seeking help and connecting with resources. The core mission of the SELs Title III program is to foster a strong connection between students and university staff. We recognize that starting college can be both exciting and overwhelming. Our role is to bridge that gap, ensuring that every student feels supported and informed throughout their academic journey.
Our Services
As Student Empowerment Liaisons, we provide a variety of services to help students thrive at Fairmont State:
· Resource Navigation: We assist students in finding and utilizing academic and personal resources on campus, including tutoring services, counseling, and study groups.
· Peer Support: We offer a friendly ear and share experiences to help ease the transition to college life, encouraging students to share their challenges and victories.
· Workshops and Events: Our team will attend a variety of events throughout the academic year. By being present at these events, we aim to get to know students personally and understand their needs and aspirations.
· Information Station: We provide information to introduce students to various campus services and opportunities, ensuring they know what Fairmont State has to offer.
