Each year, Fairmont State University comes alive with energy and enthusiasm during Maroon and White Day, as it is a tradition that strengthens school spirit with incoming students. This year’s event, held on October 26, was no exception, showcasing the university’s commitment to academic excellence and student involvement.
Maroon and White Day is more than just a chance to wear Fairmont State’s colors. It’s an amazing opportunity for students, faculty, and alumni to come together and showcase the best parts of Fairmont State University. One of the great parts of Maroon and White Day was the Academic Fair, which gathered representatives from all the departments and schools within Fairmont State University. Held in the Falcon Center, the fair provided a platform for students to explore various academic programs, meet faculty members and their departments, and learn about a variety of opportunities. Personally, running one of the tables with my own group this year I was able to see at first glance the impact that showcasing the programs provides for future students.
Each department set up engaging booths that displayed their unique offerings from interactive demonstrations to informative handouts. Many being guides to being a freshman, how to locate the proper resources and who to ask for help. Students were encouraged to ask questions and discover pathways that align with their interests and career goals. If a student was not sure about their degree, they could even just talk to get more perspective on professions. The event provided diverse opportunities for attendees. The fair showcased a wide range of academic disciplines including arts and humanities, business, education, engineering, health sciences, and more. Many who attended learned about innovative projects, internships, and extracurricular activities and programs available at each table. The opportunity to connect directly with staff members also provided students with valuable insights into work-study, financial aid, health resources and more. Many students left the fair feeling more informed and empowered along with many parents. The fair also emphasized the importance of building connections, not just within academic disciplines but also the support students receive from their peers. Maroon and White Day allows students to see themselves at FSU while assuring parents that it is the best place for them to attend.
Maroon and White Day, with its activities and the informative Academic Fair, provides an opportunity to show Fairmont State University has a strong foundation of community.
