UFC 306 was hosted at Sphere, Las Vegas, NV on Saturday Sept. 14, the event being dubbed “Noche UFC” in honor of Mexican Independence Day.
Sean O’ Malley fought Merab Dvalishvili in defense of the Bantam weight class title, and lost the title by unanimous decision. Despite heavy favor for O’Malley to keep his title, the match proved surprising as Dvalishvili dominated O’Malley, leading to his victory.
UFC CEO Dana White gave his thoughts on O’Malley’s performance during the main card in a post UFC 306 press conference, believing O’Malley was not in his usual shape, White stated “He looked flat. He didn’t look sharp. He didn’t look crisp until [that] last round.” O’Malley posted a short statement to his X account regarding the match, saying, “Over promised under delivered. Sorry. Love you guys.”
O’Malley later took to Instagram posting a video of himself practicing in a wrestling singlet captioned “Back to work.” The match turned out to be an outcome few were expecting, but only the future will tell if Sean O’Malley makes a comeback.
