Hello readers! Welcome to Lovebird Book Reviews where I, Avary King, review/recommend the latest and greatest of everyone’s favorite genre: romance. This is a spoiler-FREE zone!
Welcome to the Spooky Edition of Lovebird Book Reviews! The leaves are falling and spooky season is calling. A little secret about me: I hate being scared. I don’t go on roller coasters, I stay far away from haunted houses, and you will never find me watching a horror movie. Don’t get me wrong, I love Halloween. I just appreciate the non-horror aspects of Halloween. Costumes, candy, pets in costumes, pumpkin carving, Disney Channel Monstober, I could go on and on. But because I enjoy sleeping peacefully at night, I have never really dove into the realm of Halloween literature. However, through the magic of the internet and complex “for-you page” algorithms, I have found a new niche. A niche that Booktok has been calling “not so spooky” reads. Reads that celebrate all of the lovely aspects of Halloween without the blood/gore. I am looking for a nice witch/demon enemies-to-lovers situation. I want a book that gives me the vibes of Allison and Max from Hocus Pocus. I need the thrill of love potions, ghosts, vampires, and black cats transforming into beautiful men in puffy regency shirts. Think Practical Magic vibes but add in some spicy scenes to keep me happy. I have done extensive scrolling and scouring to find the perfect Halloween romances that will have me brewing love potions under my bed. I am fully committed to the bit of Halloween romance, so if you were looking to come here to this article and get book recommendations that would cause Stephen King to sleep with the lights on; I’m afraid you have come to the wrong place. I am planning to read all of these before Halloween, (I know what you’re thinking, that seems like a lot of books to read in under 2 weeks. To that I say, I read fast; my delusion will get me through it). Here are the 4 not-so-spooky reads that make up my October TBR! Read along with me and I’d love to hear what you thought of each read in the comments!
