When you got accepted to Fairmont State University, you got to apply for a dorm space to spend your freshman year. After you initially get to campus on move in day, the first place you go is your dorm room. Within four weeks of being on campus, your Resident Assistants are telling you about Room Renewals and preparing to reserve next year’s dorm space. Each hall has its own culture, style, and events. How do you know which residence hall is right for you?
Bryant Place, located on the west side of campus, is one of the newer halls at Fairmont State University. Bryant has six floors, with suite style rooms organized in single and double layouts. A Bryant Place single has four individual bedrooms, while a Bryant Place double has two bedrooms with each containing two beds. Each suite contains two sinks, a common area, one shower room, and one restroom facility in addition to the two different arrangements of bedrooms. The current Residence Director of Bryant Place is Savanna Overstreet, a woman with a great sense of humor who loves horror. Benefits of living at Bryant Place include having a semi-private bathroom and shower, direct access to the parking garage, and the fact that Bryant Place is the most accessible hall for students under ADA, or The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, making it easily accessible to residents with physical disabilities.
University Terrace is Fairmont State’s most luxurious residence hall, with three designer buildings (North, West, and East) and fully furnished apartments available for student occupation. This building has four types of living arrangements: single studios, doubles, quads, and semi-suites. The current Residence Director of University Terrace is Christopher Heaton, a calm man who loves geography. Perks of living at University Terrace include extended lease opportunities (should you need to stay while school is out of session) and living a semi-
independent lifestyle that reflects living in an off-campus apartment while still being close to your classes and campus utilities. Space in University Terrace fills up quickly, so if you want to move here next year you will need to be proactive and reserve as soon as registration opens.
Morrow Hall is the oldest residence hall on campus, having recently turned 100 years old. As a protected historical building, there is a lot of history within its walls. Morrow has three floors comprised of traditional style dorm rooms. The first floor has a cozy layout: a fully outfitted kitchen, a pool table, and a comfortable common room where you can find residents relaxing after a long day of class. Morrow Hall shares a staff with Prichard Hall, the second oldest building on campus at 59 years old and the other traditional style dormitory. Standing at three stories tall, Prichard currently hosts the Honors Living-Learning Community, one of three living learning communities on campus. Prichard boasts a beautiful study lounge, a fully outfitted kitchen, and plenty of built-in storage space for each dorm room. The current Residence Director for Morrow and Prichard Halls is Cody Haskiell, a friendly man who loves games and his cat JPEG. Benefits of living in Prichard or Morrow Halls include getting the traditional dorm life experience, having close-knit relationships with your peers, and being located next to the Falcon Center means you will always be connected to what is going on around campus.
