Student Health Center

The winter season is always at an all-time high when it comes to getting sick. Most common sicknesses people get in the winter are common colds, the flu, pneumonia, bronchitis, the stomach flu, and now Covid-19. Students are always encouraged to keep up with their health and are expected to get help when it is needed. A great thing to remember is that students are not alone if they need help keeping up with their health. The Student Health Center, located on the 3rd floor in the Falcon Center, not only treats illnesses and injuries, but also provides educational programming in Health Promotion. They want students to know that prevention is the key to health and that early care of illness, and a healthy lifestyle can prevent serious illnesses, reduce missing classes, and keeps students feeling and looking well.

There are many different services that the student health center provides. Keep in mind, this health center is not an emergency facility. If there is an emergency, it is best to call 911 or 304-367-7100 (Fairmont Regional Medical Center). Most of the services this center offers are similar to what students would receive from their primary health care provider. Services include:

  • STI counseling, testing, and treatment
  • Annual flu vaccine
  • Evaluation and counseling referral for treatment of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, drug or alcohol addiction, etc.
  • Women’s Health exams (by appointment) and contraceptives through WV Family Planning Program. Enrollment is required
  • Allergy injections administered by order from student’s allergist
  • In-office testing for Strep, Mono, Urinalysis, Blood glucose, Urine Pregnancy, and Influenza
  • School required entrance physicals for education and health care programs by appointment. They do not offer athletic physicals
  • Over the counter medications. First aid treatment and supplies

So how do students use the health services? Students can call 304-367-4155 or just walk in but remember that a valid student ID is required. The Health Center’s office hours and entrance to the Student Health Portal are located here. Urgent need students will be seen first, and some waiting may be necessary. There is no additional charge above the Health Service Fee for services provided and they do not bill insurance. X-rays or lab tests ordered beyond what is offered at the center are at the student’s expense.
