Family Fun Halloween Event

On Saturday, October 30th, The United Way and the Marion County Public Library hosted their annual Family Fun Halloween Event. The event started at 5:00 pm on Monroe Street in Fairmont and lasted until 8:00 pm. Thankfully, the evening went on without heavy rain, and there was only the occasional sprinkle. Many groups participated in the event by decorating their cars and dressing up for the trunk or treat. The Soup Opera, Fairmont City Police, and others took part in the trunk or treat along with a few organizations from Fairmont State University.

The Honors Association was one of the organizations that participated in the event. This was their second year participating. They decorated their car with purple beware tape, spider webs, and fake googly eyes. Molly Simpson, the secretary of the Honors Association, was happy to help with the trunk or treat and said, “It’s always nice to work in partnership with organizations like the United Way to give back to the Fairmont community. Seeing the smiling faces of so many children at the trunk or treat event made it extremely worthwhile!” Molly Simpson and Ally Quigley brought smiles to children’s faces with their inflatable pig and black cat costumes!

This event also had live music and Halloween-themed games for the children to play. The Family Fun Halloween Event had a great turnout, and each group served around 250 to 300 children. Ally Quigley expressed how “It was great seeing all the kids out and about after a long year of being socially distanced and away. I’m so happy the Honors Association was able to connect with the Fairmont Community in such a fun way!”
