2021 Best Places to Eat in Fairmont
Cafeteria food can sometimes become tiring and boring. While Fairmont State tries to switch up some of the foods available throughout the month, most of the food stays the same. Students may eventually want to branch out and try new places within the Fairmont district. I asked 15 people what their favorite restaurants were, and here are the options they all came up with:
- Mama Di Roma
- McAteer’s Restaurant
- Applebee’s
- Pufferbelly’s Ice Cream Station
- Dairy Crème Corner
- The Joe
- Kumo Japan
- Muriale’s Italian Kitchen
- Colasessano’s Pizza
- The Poky Dot
- Say-Boy Restaurant
- Cantoni’s Pizza
- Dutchman’s Daughter Restaurant
- The College Lunch
- Derby Bar and Grill
- Yann’s Hot Dog Stand
A total of 121 people completed my poll in voting on which places were the best to eat. These people were mixtures of students, professors, members of the community, and those who have frequently eaten in the area. Below I provided the top 5 places and a description of each.
#1 Best Place to eat in Fairmont West Virginia: Muriale’s Italian Kitchen $$
With a total of 45 out of 121 votes, Muriale’s Italian Kitchen came first by a landslide. This Italian kitchen has been crafting authentic recipes that have been passed down over generations since 1969! You can dine-in, take out, or dine on the patio with a view. On the menu, you can find appetizers, salads, sandwiches and hoagies, lunch specials, sides, piatti second plates, pastas of the house, and combinations. From pizza to shrimp fra diavlo, meatball casserole to spaghetti and lasagna, Muriale’s has all the Italian favorites. Considering it finished with the most votes, 37.19% of our voters think so too!
#2 Dutchman’s Daughter Restaurant $
This American (Traditional) Restaurant received ten out of 121 votes. Dutchman’s offers salads, dinners, pastas, sides, appetizers, and some yummy desserts. They have daily specials like homemade-creamed chicken on biscuits with mashed potatoes and green beans, all you can eat spaghetti with a garden salad, country fried steak, salmon cakes, roast pork sandwiches, etc. The restaurant opened in 1994, where it originally had five tables and now seats fifty people. Dutchman’s serves home-cooked food in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
#3 Dairy Crème Corner (Seasonal) $
While Dutchman’s and Dairy Crème Corner tied with ten votes each, Dairy Crème Corner is currently temporarily closed for the season. They will re-open in the spring for business, so don’t forget to give them a try! This ice cream shop has been known for the “Biggest Cones in Town” since 1987. But fear not, because they have more than just ice cream. Their menu includes hoagies and subs, sandwiches, pizza bread, pepperoni rolls, chick wings and nuggets, shrimp dinners, funnel cakes, salads, hot dogs, sides, and snack food. A personal favorite of mine would have to be their breaded pickle spears. When it comes to their ice cream menu, they have too much to choose from, in the best way.
#4 The Poky Dot $$
The Poky Dot’s doors have been open for over 65 years. This ice cream junction offers a wide variety of foods, ice cream, shakes, and snacks to choose from. They’ve got cheesecakes, pies, ice cream scoops the size of softballs, breakfast foods, munchy foods, soups and salads, sandwiches/hoagies/reubens, burgers and hotdogs, wraps and croissants, super suppers, sides, and kid’s choices. And yes, I did say ice cream scoops the size of softballs. Each scoop weighs a pound, whereas their banana split weighs approximately NINE POUNDS. You will not leave this place hungry.
#5 Kumo Japan $
Tied with #4 at eight votes, Kumo Japan was founded earlier this year! They specialize in bringing many different fresh Asian Fusion entrees. Using the freshest ingredients, Kumo Japan prides themselves on preparing a large portion of their menu in house. Like the above restaurants, they offer appetizers, soups, salads, kid’s choices, and desserts. However, they offer different foods like sushi, thai curry, rice and noodles, Chinese delicacies, and hibachi.
