LGBTQIA+ Health Awareness Week
This past week on Monday the 22nd, Wednesday the 24th, and Friday the 26th, Fairmont State Universities inclusivity organization, Falcons with Pride, set up a table on the second floor of the Falcon Center and painted the bell for LGBT Health Week. They handed out information about Falcons with Pride, the LGBT community itself, Transgender Day of Visibility, the transgender spectrum, and a list of emergency hotlines. They members sitting at the table also had a sign-up sheet for anyone looking to join.
The week of March 22nd through March 26th was LGBT Health Awareness Week and International Transgender Day of Visibility is coming up on March 31st. LGBT Health Awareness Week is week, usually during March, that is dedicated to spreading awareness about discrimination and health differences that people in the LGBT community face. International Transgender Day of Visibility is a day that is celebrated all over the world to celebrate accomplishments in the transgender community as well as to raise awareness about what still needs to be done.
Some of the information about the transgender community handed out included a list of terms to help people better understand as well as a couple of diagrams. These diagrams showed how sexuality, gender, and gender expression are all on a spectrum.
