Creative Sustainability Council Projects

The Creative Sustainability Council (CSC) has been doing their best to take care of the beautiful place that we live in. They have created new projects and produced new ideas to do just that.

Erica Harvey, Abelina Suarez Professor of Chemistry at Fairmont State University, stated “Sustainability is the heart of what we are. It is one of the most important things that we can thing about. We are broadly considering sustainability, which includes mindfulness, to consider the impact of ourselves on the Earth and on each other. The Creative Sustainability Council has room for a lot of that so it’s pleasurable to be alive and the Earth can be sustained.”

One of the things that the CSC is doing is the glass crushing project, which has been continued from last semester. The glass is now being used by artists, along with other local companies. There is also a composting site for the glass crushing project, located behind the Falcon Center in the new, finished Creative Sustainability Council pavilion. The Council plans to continue adding to the pavilion.

More recently, the Council has been active in engaging the community in a statewide Earth Day celebration; Earth Day is on April 22nd. The events will be virtual, for the most part. The events can be seen through the https://sites.google.com/view/awildandwonderfulearthday2021 link.

The CSC is encouraging people of all majors to come and check out the projects that they have going on. They are open to new ideas and proposals that students may have that would fit under what the group stands for. The Council meets once a month on the third Friday of the month at 2:00 p.m. via WebEx, but if you are unable to attend, feel free to reach out through the CSC email at [email protected] or through Erica Harvey, [email protected] .
