Kyla Campbell, Aspiring Art Therapist
Kyla Campbell, or as some know her, Coco, is a Studio Art major, and Psychology minor aspiring to become an art therapist. When asked about working on art in a more professional manner she said, “I have been trying to learn how to draw since I was a tiny kid but truly started passionately practicing art out of spite, (just like 90% of everything I do in life), because I was told that my art was bad and lazy, or to stop making art and learn something else more ‘useful’. I love making art more than anything else and love being able to show images in my head to the world, especially since I’m terrible at describing things verbally.” Kyla is always working to improve her art.
Kyla loves the bizarre and cute eye-catching types of art. She said that she especially loves sharp line art, messy coloring, and fun characters. Although she prefers drawing cartoons in her spare time, she also does semi-realism despite being impatient with it.
When talking about her cartoons she said, “My cartoon art style was heavily influenced by my hyper fixation on littlest pet shop toys. Sometimes when I get tired, I switch hands and can draw better with my non-dominant hand.”
She said her main style of art is fun and loud. Which if you know her, she also expresses in her wardrobe. She loves drawing wild and exciting characters and has been more interested in drawing monster type dogs lately. Kyla’s favorite artist is @man_with_mint on Instagram. She stated, “Their art is super cute and fun to look at!”
Kyla has loved her experience with Fairmont State’s art program and said it “has been great!” She said she has met super sweet people and she is learning how to excel in many different art mediums.
“My favorites so far have been both my painting classes (watercolor and oil) and 3d art,” said Kyla.
