A Time To Give
The second annual Day of Giving, Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Fairmont State University was nothing short of a huge success. Before the 24-hour challenge, a goal of $250,000 was put in place to reach for academics and athletics, combined. The goal was hit out of the park by alumni, community members, employees, family members, and friends, who donated more than $300,000.
This year’s Day of Giving had over 600 more donors, up from 387 last year. Over $140,000 was raised for the athletic department. There was an overwhelming support of the FSU men’s and women’s basketball teams. The men’s team raised nearly $29,000, with the women’s team close behind at $24,000. Donors gave more than $89,000 to support scholarships, both academic, $44,000, and athletic, $18,000. Fairmont State University schools and colleges earned almost $35,000 to support funds that can be utilized for scholarships, faculty support, or projects.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has put many obstacles into play in the past eight months, the ability to give was not one for FSU alumni and friends. The Fairmont State Foundation believes that the pandemic put a special emphasis on the importance of donations in many people’s eyes.
“This day is not only about raising money, but awareness of the university and its opportunities and priorities. We are just excited for the students and student athletes who are the big winners”, stated, Fairmont State Foundation President, Julie Cryser.
