The Tutoring and Testing Center
The Tutoring and Testing Center (2nd Floor of Ruth Ann Musick Library) at Fairmont State University has a variety of resources for students on campus. The staff is helpful and has a goal to make each student as successful as they can be in the classroom.
The center offers walk-in tutoring of approximately 40 different subjects, ranging from Biology and Calculus to History and English. The tutors, some of whom are current students at FSU, can assist with past knowledge and tips for the course that a student may be seeking help with. In addition to this, the staff provides proctor testing for students with disabilities, as well as the TEAS exam, and occasionally, Accuplacer exams. Brittany Cuchta, Coordinator of Tutoring & Testing, stated, “Anything that the students need help on, we can either help them there [ed. Tutoring and Testing Center], or send them to someone who could help them.”
The Tutoring and Testing Center has been given some new tools to provide to students because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They have expanded their technology to feature online tutoring via Microsoft Teams to those who would like to have their learning done that way. Students must get in touch with a staff member to schedule an online meeting time. More recently, they have also added night and weekend times to help with students’ busy schedules.
If you or someone you know is interested in tutoring, you should be on the lookout for applications on the www.fairmontstatejobs.com website about a month in advance of the start of the semester. The student wanting to tutor must have a 3.0 GPA and have an A or B in whatever subject that they want to tutor in. The Tutoring and Testing Center is currently trying to find more tutors for all areas but especially subjects like foreign languages, psychology, and sociology.
