The West Virginia Chapter of Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-WV) was welcomed to Fairmont State University as the organizer of the PRSA Fall Professional Development Conference on Wednesday, October 16.
Members of the PRSA-WV Chapter, students of Fairmont State University and Fairmont State’s University Relations and Marketing team were in attendance to learn more About the Pitch.
Speakers presented topics surrounding the idea of creating the perfect pitch which is a condensed offer of a news story or other media content to a journalist, influencer, or publication.
Various perspectives were represented throughout the conference discussions. Attendees heard from journalist Abigail Pesta, editor Nikki Bowman and other industry professionals regarding the multifaceted media pitch.
“Take the time to personalize your pitch,” said Bowman. “I like it to target my publication audiences. My favorite stories are the ones that know what I would like and what my readers would like.”
The conference concluded with Geah Pressgrove. Pressgrove spoke on ethically generating and tracking content of consumers and recommended that attendees review the PRSA Code of Ethics.
Geah Pressgrove stated, “Understand the importance you put on ethics. And Be FAT. Not everyone will tell you to Be FAT, but I will. Be Fair, Accountable and Transparent.”
